Sierra Comments on Rolling Stones Cover

Sierra was recently asked about how the group come across to covering the Rolling Stones hit.

VersaEMERGE – “Paint It Black”
Originally performed by The Rolling Stones
“It is a funny story of how we chose this song. Blake and Devin brought the idea to Me (Sierra) and I immediately shot it down. I thought the song was good but I didn’t think we were giving ourselves much of a challenge. My heart was set on Pink Floyd, but the boys insisted that we do The Rolling Stones. It took a while but I eventually agreed and I’m so glad I did. They went for this song because the lead hook reminded us of something we would write. The progression is very intriguing as well as the structure of the song. It’s hard to define where the verse ends and the chorus begins, and this is something that’s very hard to get away with nowadays. The song’s simplicity really allowed us to use it as a playground and try lots of different things and add our own flair. I wish the boys could correct all of my mistakes!” – Sierra Kusterbeck
